Carving !

this is a really popular technique in ceramics. Their are many tings you can do using extraction. By carving you can create 3D images making them pop out of your art. You can ever carve an image into the piece leaving an impression. This technique has been used since anicent times for decorative pourposes and even to get a point across. One way of carving I find interesting is as shown in the picture above . This man has painted his piece using stains and slips. While still wet he then carves the desing out after.

VAL LYLE
Influenced by archetypes and the subconscious.
I chose Lyle because I find her work very interesting.
I love her organic style and when I look at all the pieces she has
created ideas just flow into my mind. When she makes her art
she doesnt jus wake up and say ok i guess I'll make something today.
No, she takes time and looks into her subconscious mind. She says she is
comfortable working with her subconscious. This is why i really like this
particular artist. She has some amazing art and makes a lot of life figures,
real things like people, bodies, flowers and such. My concentration is nature I really like to make pieces from real life which may also explain why I enjoy this artist so much.

Turquoise Corolla
This project was what you would call a beach ball bowl. I made the piece by wraping and smoothing coils around a beach ball, adding the textures and flowers later.
What really inspired me in creating this piece is actually the land scape around my house. Many of the leaves and flowers are based on what I see every day when i step out side my door .

Crimson Night
I constructed this vase from two slabs.
Our assingment was to use slab technique
to make a vase. Usually when I make a
vase i use coils so this was different for me.
The vase is made from gray clay, the base
color is black acrylic, and the carving is filled
in by red acrylic paint.

Water
Have you ever looked into the ocean
and imagined it looking back at you?
Fisher men say the ocean is like a bitter
woman. This is my idea. She is made from
gray clay and her color comes from many
shades of sponged acrylic paint.

Tribal Style Mask
My inspiration for this mask was a wooden monkey i found at a market. I loved the style and decided considering our project in class was to design and make a mask i would use that idea. The mask is made from red clay. The purple and black design on the right are water colored coils and slip. I finished it off with several coats of wood stain.

Silver Stairs

This piece is a plaster carving. I had a little trouble carving because with plaster you cannot fix your mistakes. When using clay if something breaks or falls off you can always scratch and slip it back on. Not with plaster ;)
